SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Evening Student Success Coach supports the mission of Summit Academy OIC by assisting students and alumni of the organization’s vocational programs as they prepare for and enter the workforce. This individual promotes student success and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development of students. The coach works with students to develop and achieve their career goals, assists them in overcoming barriers to employment, identifies employment, education, and career options, helps with resume writing, and provides job readiness counseling. This role will also involve teaching all, or aspects of, the student’s Career Development class which includes resume development, interview preparation, and cover letter development.

Student Success
  • Builds strong relationships with students, alumni, and employers to help them reach training and employment goals. Provides direct support services to individual students, small groups, and classrooms.
  • Monitors student academic performance, conduct, and attendance. Promotes student success through preventive services and facilitates appropriate interventions to address the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.
  • Assists students in navigating Summit Academy OIC’s policies and procedures, academic requirements, and related items.
  • Conducts assessments; uses data to develop comprehensive programs that meet student needs; meets regularly with instructional staff to stay abreast of student concerns, needs, and issues.

Workforce Readiness

  • Provides classroom instruction of Career Development classes to develop job seeking and interview skills; cover letters; resumes; etc.
  • Assists in connecting students and alumni to part-time and full-time employment opportunities. Records and shares information from employers about job opportunities via print and electronic media.
  • Performs outreach calls to students, alumni, and employers to gather and record job placement information. Documents, records, and reports outcomes related to work readiness, employment, and retention efforts via the student information system (SIS). Analyzes related data and regularly report findings to management.
  • Organizes volunteer opportunities (e.g., mock interviews) and supervises volunteers while on-site. Assists in Career Services initiatives, events, and programs as assigned.
  • Joins and participates in local and regional professional associations to build solid working relationships and to stay abreast of trends and resources; adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the counseling and coaching profession.

Lead Evenings and Weekends

  • Provides on-site supervision and support during evenings and weekends.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for instructors, students, and staff during evening and weekend hours.
  • Addresses and resolves any issues, concerns, or emergencies that may arise during student training.
  • Secures and locks all entrances/exits, classrooms, offices, and labs at the end of each shift.
  • Reports any maintenance, security, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor promptly.

  • Outstanding communications skills: written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation. Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to present in front of a classroom.
  • Positive and motivational attitude; ability to inspire and motivate in both one-on-one and large group situations. Good knowledge of advising and coaching practices.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving ability; demonstrated ability to be proactive.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
  • Ability to build rapport and work with people from diverse backgrounds, ethnic cultures, and economic and social situations.
  • Ability to produce a high volume and quality of work in a fast-paced environment despite numerous interruptions.
  • Strong documentation, timeliness, records retention, and workplace organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively capture and analyze student data.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Anthology/Campus Management products is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office and classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment, which requires the ability to open filing cabinets, use keyboarding skills, and bend or stand as necessary. This position may occasionally lift such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others, and/or lift and carry light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a part-time, non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). All hours worked in excess of 40 in any work week are eligible for overtime. All overtime must be approved in advance by your supervisor. Hours of work are Mondays–Thursdays 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Some daytime hours may be required to meet the expectations of this position.

TRAVEL

Limited local travel may be required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, or related field from an accredited college/university OR four years of professional experience working with adults in an education or case management setting.
  • One to three years of professional experience working in student support or career services.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or social services.
